Mentor Teacher Credential Pilot

Strong educators don’t just support children—they support each other. But mentoring isn’t something most people are formally prepared to do, even though more programs are relying on mentors and coaches to guide and grow the workforce. When mentors are well-prepared, they don’t just offer advice; they model best practices, build confidence, and elevate the quality of teaching across programs.

The Michigan AEYC Mentor Teacher Credential is designed to prepare early childhood professionals to step into this role with purpose and skill. Participants develop expertise in relationship-based coaching, reflective practice, and effective communication, learning how to support adult learners in ways that are meaningful, respectful, and impactful.

This pilot opportunity brings together a cohort of educators who are ready to invest in their own growth while helping shape the future of the field—strengthening practice and supporting the growth and retention of other educators.
