POWER HOUR - What books do you have on your shelf for the start of the new school year?

During this session, attendees will explore the following key concepts:

Preparing the classroom to be a welcoming, safe, and familiar environment for children and their families can be both exciting and challenging. Books play a vital role in creating spaces where every child feels they belong. During this interactive session, participants will explore how to thoughtfully curate a classroom library, determine where books can be placed throughout the learning environment to encourage engagement, create a family lending library that extends literacy beyond the classroom, and foster meaningful family participation through shared reading experiences.

Learning Objectives

Participants will have the opportunity to

·  Identify a variety of high-quality children's books, including new releases and timeless classics, that support student engagement and foster a love of reading.

·  Evaluate children's literature to select books that reflect diverse perspectives, reading levels, interests, and classroom needs.

·  Develop strategies for curating a joyful, inclusive classroom library that encourages independent reading and meaningful book exploration.

·  Apply book selection and presentation techniques to intentionally launch the school year with stories that build community, curiosity, and enthusiasm for reading.

You may request training hours for up to three trainings per form.

Once this form has been submitted, please allow up to 14 days for SCECHs to be added to your MOECS account. PLEASE NOTE: This is not a MiRegistry Request Form. MiRegistry training hours are submitted automatically when a training is completed. After completion of a training, please allow 24-48 hours for your training to appear in your MiRegistry Learning Record
